When a payment fails both the landlord and and your tenant will be immediately notified by email. Failed payments usually occur due to insufficient funds, but can occur for other reasons too (i.e. bank not setup to receive ACH debits).
The tenant is able to re-schedule the payment from within their account. Avail will not automatically attempt to retry the payment. Once the tenant re-initiates their payment, the funds will be received by the landlord in 3 business days as standard.
There is no fee or penalty assessed to the landlord in the event of a failed payment.
Tenants would likely have been charged a penalty by their bank and they incur a $15 NSF fee from Avail to cover the cost of the payment failure. This fee is added onto their next payment in the system.
If the payment fails, it typically also results in a rent delinquency beyond the grace period allowed within the lease. Landlords should review charges to ensure any late fees have applied as expected.
